There was a member from MN who also had a 1500 with the 6.0... I actually met him once! Nice truck. I don't know if that helps out at all, but I do know the 1500, at times, did come with the 6.0. As far as I know, it was slightly different than the 6.0 in the 2500HD.

Great engine! The L76 is called the "Vortec Max" engine, have it in my 08 Silverado. Very strong, plenty of power at 367hp. You can't go wrong with it. Sad thing is the Vortex Max engine is no longer offered and there are not many around. I wish This was still available when I got my 2010, would be nice to have two of them.
Makes the current 6.0L engine seem like a baby.

You don't see to many Vortec Max engines because they were only ofered from 07-09 and were not easy to come by. I had to order mine from GM and wait to take delivery. Couldn't find them on the lots most times. It's a much better engine than the 6.0L LY6 that is offered in the HD trucks.

The L76 is one of their best engines. The way they have it all set up is for towing. Once you add a few parts you unleash the potential for it. I'm running 5.8 second 0-60 times with 32 inch tires lol.

Mileage isn't so great in town but on the highway if I'm not driving like a jackass I can get about 17 mpg or so. It's just hard to keep your foot out of it!

What did you add to get the additional power?

Go grab a cold air kit and a tuner at Bare minimum. The tuner really helps out if you run like a 91 octane tune. Basically an exhaust will help free up some ponies too. The thing has a lot of power, it's just all locked up so adding some bolt ons will really make a difference.

In 2010 the L76 6.0L was replaced with the current 6.2L. You could have gotten the 6.2 in your 2010.

"The Vortec 6000 L76 or new VortecMax is a Generation IV aluminum small block V8 truck engine based on the Holden L76 engine, and features variable cam phasing, along with Active Fuel Management. It can be considered the replacement for the Generation III LQ9 engine. It produces 367 hp (274 kW) at 5400 rpm and 375 lb·ft (508 N·m) at 4400 rpm. Production started in late 2006, and is only available with the new body style Silverado and Sierra. The final year for the option of the VortecMax engine was 2009 in the Silverado and Sierra."

The L76 was also found in Pontiac GTOs and G8s.

I have one in my 2008 and it's a good engine. It moves the truck reasonably well and gets decent milage for what it is. My 2 main complaints about it are the slightly rough idle and GM really has it strapped down with a TON of torque management. If it ever bothers me enough Black Bear can easily remove it.

IMO... the BEST engine GM has out right now for light duty trucks is the L9H 6.2L that can only be had in a Silverado or Sierra. It's not the same as the 6.2L in the Escalade or Denali. (L94) The only difference is that the L9H does NOT have active fuel management.

Didn't want the 6.2L, gas prices are high enough for 89, premium is out of control. The 6.2L calls for premium fuel, that's the thing that turned me away.

How do you disable this? What are the pros and cons? I have this engine as well and am always looking for a little more... :)

I just picked up an 09 GMC 1500 crew with the max tow. L76 an 6L80. So far, so good. The TQ Management is really heavy handed in this truck. I'm going to add a DynoMax VT exhaust on it (they're a sponsor of mine) and likely an intake. GM transferred the drivetrain warranty for another 18 months.

The L76 never came with a 6L80E, only the 4L70E

That's funny. My build sheet says otherwise. MYC - Auto 6-speed, 6L80.

Just and update after having owned this truck for a year now. Normal driving is getting me 16.5 with a mix of city/hwy. Hwy alone is near 20. The only mod is a DynoMax catback. Towing my 4800# Jeep on an open deck trailer gets about 10.5. Towing a solid 9K in an enclosed 20' trailer was 9.5. Not too shabby, and I never once needed more umph.

I bought a VMax brand new back in 09. It has been a great truck! I Have driven the wheels off it. Towing, 4x4ing, long road trips, daily driver... you name it, it's done it with flying colors. I lifted mine 6" right off the lot with 34" tires which robbed some power and mpgs. I slowly added Magnoflow exhaust, K&N intake, Jet Mass air flow sensor, and an EDGE CTS Tuner. All these mods made a pretty big difference getting my highway mileage up to 17mpg. Im trading her in tho... in two weeks when my brand new Silverado w/ the 6.2L motor comes in!!

I also have the L76 in my 2008 Sierra 1500 CC. It's a very mean motor lol. All I have done is put a diablosport intune tuner on it and shut off AFM. More bolt ons to come later. It only has 87500 miles as of now. I get about
13-14mpg in town. But I didn't get the truck for good gas mileage, it will obviously get worse when I add my bolt ons I want. Plan on making it a show truck down the road
